For quite some time I’ve had my eye on the Mansur Gavriel bucket bag. As you can see from these blog posts here, here and here, it’s been on my mind for a long time.
If you are familiar with these bags you would know then how quickly they sell out. At the time of first seeing them and noticing how much I liked them more and more on Instagram and other blogs, I just put it as something that I would one day get to buying when I could afford it. Trouble is, I tend to buy lots of things and I never got around to it.
In the last 6 – 9 months, every time I visit the Mansur Gavriel website I’m met with the same message that we all hate seeing. The dreaded ‘sold out‘. Eventually I emailed about it and asked when they would be restocked. They don’t do pre-orders which is so annoying! Anyway, so since this label has gotten so huge, they had a launch date for a new season plus the old favourites. Set for 11am Eastern Standard Time, (I’m from Australia so this meant 1am!) I set my alarm to get up to try and nab one of these highly sought after bucket bags. I got onto the page, added my bag to cart, (they said it would be held for 5 minutes once in the cart) hit continue and what do you know SOLD OUT!! What the hell! It was less then a minute that every bag sold out in. Well… you should have seen their Instagram go mental! Clearly I was not the only one who missed out.
If something is that popular and the demand is so high wouldn’t you increase your order numbers/inventory levels?! Just my view.
Anyway… I was walking aimlessly around the shops last week when I came across this bag in Seed. I loved what I saw, it was the perfect shape and size and under $100! (and I didn’t have to pay $150 for shipping which F.Y.I that’s what MG charges – WTF!) For something that is kind of a trend I thought F it, I don’t care that it’s not leather or MG.
Normally I don’t condone or buy copied items in fashion that are so blatantly obvious but when the original is so bloody hard to get your hands on I chose not to care. I am loving my bag and feel happy knowing that when the trend passes I haven’t broken the bank and can go back to my staple Wang bag that will never go out of style at any time.
Do you have a story like this? I’d love to hear from you!
